1956 Facel Vega FV2

The FV, later known as the FVS and after 1959 the name was changed again to HK500, was produced from 1954 to 1962. The early models of the FV came equipped with Chrysler Hemi V8 4.5-liter engine with 180 horsepower, and either as 2-speed automatic or 4-speed manual. The FV had a top speed of 120 mph designed only as a 2-door coupe. The FV was inspired by aircrafts which was reflected by the aerodynamic design and dashboard. The FV was also the first car to come equipped with a center console over the gear box and is known for is exceptional interior and ability to fold down rear seats for additionally luggage storage and boot access. The FV was converted to the FV2 in 1955, small cosmetic changes occurred but the main difference was the engine was increased to 4.8 liter and increased the horsepower to 250 hp.

Facel S.A began as French steel furniture and component manufacturer in 1939, originally founded to supply steel aircraft components for military mad by Bronzavia Industry. Following the end of World War II Facel looked to expand its business as the need for military aircrafts became less prominent. In 1948 a luxury car division was established at Facel, initially building bodies for Panhard, Delahaye, and Simca. Establishing their own brand of car, the Facel Vega in 1954. Known for their expensive price tag and exclusiveness, right after their release in 1954 they were instantly a hit amongst the rich and famous.

Although the glory did not last long after in 1960 an attempt to design a mass-produced all-French sports car to compete with Alfa Romeo. But after an extremely flawed engine attempt that could not be recovered, even by third party help the engine was scrapped. Jean Daninos the then president resigned in 1961, after the company began facing extreme financial problems. Even after attempts to fix their engine problems and restore costumer confidence the effort was far too short. Production of cars stopped in 1963, and the business lost its financial support and went under in 1964.
